OUR STORY

1961

PHOTOGRAPHY AND OPTICS

THE STORY OF MONDELLIANI OF THE MONDELLO FAMILY BEGINS IN 1961 AT VIA DEL PELLEGRINO IN ROME, JUST A FEW STEPS FROM PIAZZA CAMPO DE' FIORI; IT IS AT NUMBER 98, THAT PHOTOGRAPHER LUIGI MONDELLO OPENS HIS PHOTOGRAPHY STUDIO.

Passionate about photography and art, he transfers this great passion to his son Giancarlo, who is also a photographer. Giancarlo, inspired by the essential link between photography and optics, graduates as an optician in Florence in 1966 and decides to complement his studies in Roman photography with the optical business, thus giving life to Ottica Mondello.

1975

AVANGUARDIA AND ICONICITY

WITH LUIGI'S RETIREMENT IN 1975, THE COLLABORATION BETWEEN GIANCARLO AND ROSARIA BEGINS, WHICH WILL DEFINE THE OPERATING METHOD ON WHICH TODAY'S MONDELLIANI MICROCOSM IS BUILT.

Through meticulous research, traveling the world to find the most extraordinary glasses, Giancarlo and Rosaria establish themselves in the Roman scene as avant-gardists and trendsetters, becoming the reference point for the selection of innovative and unconventional design eyewear.

They were indeed the first to welcome in Italy many of the eyewear brands that later became famous, from the then-emerging Oliver Peoples from Los Angeles, to Alain Mikli from Paris and the Belgian brand theo which, with their unexpected shapes, have redefined the world of eyewear.
